Samwise does Humboldt Green Crack - Condensed

Post by Smokey »

This is A Samwise Gamgee grow diary.

Hi Folks,

So on to the next grow, and as the title suggest this grow I will be doing 4 x Humboldt Green crack seeds, to be known as the GC's for ease of typing :)

I will try and include as much information as possible and any hints and tips I have picked up since I started growing in coco :)

I will detail the equipment and nutrients that I will be using for veg below:

75cm x 75cm x 1m BudPro Tent
T5 96w Flo Lamp
Canna Coco Pro
Canna Start
Plant Magic Root Stim
Ionic HW Grow nutes
RAW Kelp
RAW Humic acid
RAW Amino Acids
Ph Down
Liquid Silicon

I will also be using my trusted BlueLab EC & Ph pens :)

So for germinating the seeds I usually soak the seeds in a glass of water over night, if you are using older seeds you can add rhizo, the kelp extract will help to soften the seed casing. The next day I usually put them in a damp paper towel and in a Tupperware container somewhere warm. The next day I put them in half litre pots in coco :)

So these have been above ground now for about a week, and coming along nicely.

I am currently feeding Canna Start and PM Root Stim at 1ml per litre :)

Hi Folks,

So here is my weekly update, not too much to tell really, I have upped the feed slighlty to 1.5ml per litre of the Canna Satrt and Root Stim.

I hoping to get these potted up into the Wilma this week under the gavita :)

So here they are, two weeks above ground, nice and tight, not much stretch to them:

Afternoon folks,

So had the day off work and thought it was time to get these in their big girls pots, and on the dripeprs :)

So my base EC was 0.6, I mixed up some feed to 0.8, Ph was set at 5.8, using the below to 50 litres of water:

25ml of Ionic Hardwater Grow
25ml Plant Magic Root Stim
25ml Liquid Silicon
2 Tsps RAW Amino

Thought I would do a video as well, apologies its not as professional as some of the ones on here :)

Hi Folks,

So my normal weekly update, we are now 3 weeks above ground, here is the plants on Tuesday. and here they are today, from now on I will do a 7 day comparrison so you can see the growth over a week:

Tuesday 23rd October

Friday 26th October

Hi Folks,

Just a very quick update as I done a reservoir change last night, so this feed is as below:

35ml of Ionic Hard Water Grow
25ml of Liquid Silicon
1 tsp RAW Amino acids
1 tsp of RAW humic acid
1 tsp of RAW kelp Extract

Base EC = 0.6
Ec = 0.9
Ph = 6.0 (as dropping a few points over the week)

I have cut the RAW Amino acids down to 1tsp this feed, and I have also dropped the PM Root Stim this week, and added the Kelp and humic acid as an extra boost. Kelp and humic acid work excellently together, and kelp alone has over 30 nutrient trace elements usually not included in other nutrient mixes. In general i will use the PM root stim every feed, but every 3rd week or feed, I will add the humic acid and Kelp for the nutrient boost. Adding this now means I should be able to get another feed with kelp and humic acids before I flip in 3/4 weeks time :)

I will do my usual update tomorrow, with the weekly comparison pictures so you can see the growth in the last 7 days, I think you will all be surprised just how much these have visabily grown in a week :)

Hi Folks,

So its Friday again, and time for my weekly update, this is the plants last week, and as they are today :)

I always think that the growth in coco in some ways can be just as good as in DWC, as when you get the feed and the environment correct its mental how these much these can grow in 7days :)

Hi Folks,

So my usual weekly comparrison pictures, so here is the plants as at last Friday, and as they are today:

Friday 2nd November

Friday 9th November

Here is the yellowing tips, but these are looking a lot greener since Monday, so the extra amino and the extra feed are doing the job, these are hungry buggers!

Afternoon folks :)

So my first weekly update, this week has been all about the training, I have been doing LST and got the first couple of plants all tied down ready to rock and roll, the other two plants have had some LST done, and these will be tied down at the weekend.

The two that were tied down have recovered well, although it may make for an odd photo comparrison tomorrow, with two tied down and two not.

So Wednesday night is reservoir change night in the Shire, so I mixed the below, I have upped the EC as these are proper hungry buggers :)

Base EC = 0.6
EC = 1.2
Ph = 6.0

2 tsps RAW Amino
50ml Ionic Hardwater Grow
25ml PM Root Stim
25ml Liquid Silicon

I will do my usual picture update tomorrow, hope everyone is having a good one :)

Hi Folks,

Sorry, second update of the day, but thought I would do a post on training the plants, and how I do it. I have limited headspace in my tent, its 2m high, but with the wilma you loose a bit, also the gavita runs hot, you need to keep around 10 inches of clearance as well, coupled with the fact I love growing sativa plants, I have to be pretty harsh with the training.

So when I train I usually spend a couple of days just gently bending the branches where i want them to end up, Its best to let them go roughly where they would naturually go but try and spread them out, I imagine a clock face when im looking down at the pots, and then tie the branches at the following times, 12, 1:30, 3, 4:30, 6, 7:30, 9. 10:30. Hope that makes sense :), I have picture 1 below is roughly what I mean, I have holes drilled in pots as marked.

With Sativa plants that have been topped you find you have two main branches that are taller than the others, as left in a natural states sativa plants grow very xmas tree like. When you top them you end up with two main stems thou rather than one.

This does cause a problem as these two main stems are likely to split at the join if you try and train them normally. So i have come up with a system I have used for a few grows on how you can train these two main stems, and get a more even canopy.

I use a bendz and masking tape to make a 90 degree bend in the stem, I then use a cane in the pot to support the stem, and attach the stem to the cane with a pipe cleaner. I then a bit further along use a pipe cleaner attached to the pot, to further tie down the stem.

This isnt really easy to explain text, so I have added some drawings and picture below so you can see what I mean:

Picture 1.

Hi Folks,

So here is my weekly update, as above the pictures may look a bit odd, as the 2 plants on the left have been trained and tied down, the two plants on the right have had a few nights LST, and I will be tieing these down in the morning :)

I will be spending next week tweaking the canopy and hopefully if its all nice and even I will be looking to flip these this time next week :)

Evening Folks,

So catching up on a few posts tonight, so thought I might as well do my weekly post on nutreints used. So I mixed up 50 litres as usual tonight, as below:

Base EC = 0.6
EC = 1.3
Ph = 6.0

50ml Ionic Hardwater Grow
3tsp Amino Acids
1 tsp RAW Kelp Extract
1/2tsp RAW Humic Acid
25ml Liquid Silicon

So its my third week of feeds, so as per 3 weeks ago, I am adding some extra vitamins, I am not making the mistake with amino acids again, as previously I dropped it back to 1tsp and dropped the PM Root Stim, and had some yellow tips. This time I increased the amino acids by a tsp.

The reason for this is I plan on flipping come Friday, so over the next couple of weeks I really want to load the nitrogen into the plants.

All looking good in the hood, Pictures and a Friday flip video this week, downhill till the weekend :)

Happy Friday folks :)

So my usual weekly picture update, its flip day in the Shire so these will be on 12/12 from tomorrow :)

This is the last comparrison pictures I will do, as these are getting too big to tell which is which plant, so going forward it will be just a picture of the plants weekly.

I will do a video tomorrow, as I have a couple of things I want to explain :)

So here are the pictures, I have included one of when they were potted up, which was exactly a month ago today :)

I will be adding 25ml of PK 13/14 to the reservoir tomorrow :)

Hey Folks :)

New video up :)

Afternoon folks,

So last night was reservoir change night in the Shire :)

So I mixed up my normal 50 litres as below:

Base EC = 0.6
EC = 1.2
Ph = 6.2

65ml Ionic Hardwater Hydro Grow Nutes
25ml PK 13/14

A very basic feed now were in flower, I have dropped the RAW Amino acids now, as I still want the plants getting nitorgen at this point, but not as much nitrogen as in veg. I will feed this reservoir for the next 7 days and then will probably switch over to bloom nutes and drop back on the nitrogen. I have also dropped the EC back slitghtly this week. I have also set the Ph to 6.2 while we are in flower, to give it that extra PK boost :)

On Monday I also upped the wattage to these, and were now running on 500w rather than 372w, everything is looking good in hood:)

I will do my normal update with pictures tomorrow, nearly Friday folks :)

Afternoon Folks, whoop whoop for Friday :)

Not much to report in the Shire everything is as previous posts :)

So one week from flip :)

Imageimg image hosting

For information:

Ph dropped to 5.7, ec dropped to 1.1, added 10ml of liquid silicon, and 10ml of Ionic Hardwater Grow nutes.

Ph now at 6.2
EC now at 1.2

Added another 10 litres to the reservoir, and 20ml Ionic Hardwater nutes :)

Mon the fluffyness :D

Evening Folks,

So its been a busy week in the Shire, Monday night I spent a couple of hours with the plants, lollypopping all the bottom growth, that wont make the canopy, also I got rid of any leaves that wont get any light. I am usually pretty harsh when I do this, this is for a couple of reasons, mainly as it saves the plant using energy on flowers that will only be big enough to go in the trim bag, and the other is it really helps to keep the air flow up, and the humidity down in flower. I have put an upskirt picture below to show you how much growth I got rid off. I then staked them up for extra support in flower.

Today is res change day in the Shire, and I have now changed over to Ionic Hydro Hardwater Bloom nutes. I have mixed up 50 litre in the res as below:

Base EC = 0.6
EC = 1.2
Ph = 6.2

65ml Ionic HW Bloom
25ml PK 4/10 Hammerhead
10ml Liquid Silicon

I have also got another 30 litres in my mixing container ready, as last week I had to add an extra 20 litres to the reservoir, proper hungry little fooker these :)

So here is a picture of their undercrackers, and the lovely colourful pipe cleaners :)

Image

Hi Folks,

So my usual picture update, all other details are as above, 2 weeks from flip :)

Image

Have a good weekend folks :)

Happy Humpday folks :)

I dont usually do a Wednesday update but had to add another 10ml of bloom to the res last night, res change tonight in the Shire thou.

The reason for posting as I wanted to show you what even a few days with the right feed and light can do in flower.

So heres the plants on the 07th December, and the same plants today (12th December)

Image

Image

With this kind of growth in 5 days, I get the feeling these are going to be some fooking monsters come chop!

Hi Folks,

So last night was reservoir change night in the shire, its also now week 3, for those that have been following the diary, every third week I add humic acid and kelp to my feed schedule, as this has about 30 different trace elements that are beneficial to plants.

So a bit of a weird feed this week, see if any of you can notice why :)

Base EC = 0.6
EC = 1.2
Ph = 6.0

65ml Ionic Hardwater bloom
25ml PK 13/14
1 tsp Humic Acid
1 tsp Kelp extract

The eagle eyed will see that this week I used PK 13/14 rather than hammerhead :)

The reason for this is the hammerhead has an PK of 4/10, humic acid has a PK of 0/4, and Kelp has a PK of 0/1, so if I used hammerhead the PK would be 4/15. I wanted to add extra phospherpous this feed so used teh PK 13/14, as with this I would get a PK ratio of 13/19. Which is more inline with what I want to be feeding at this point :)

The great thing with both humic acid and kelp is that neither have any added nitrogen, so are great to use in flower :)

So tomorrow I will do a picture update, hope you all have a good one :)

Afternoon Folks,

Hoping you are all having a cracking Saturday.

So my picture update, I have decided to go back to the comparrison pictures, so here they are :)

3 Weeks from flip.

Afternoon Folks,

Thought I would do a all in one update today, as works party tomorrow, and I done a res change a day late, as everything was stable :)

So first off res change:

Base EC = 0.6
Ec = 1.2
Ph = 6.0

60ml Ionic Bloom Hardwater
40ml PK 4/10 Hammerhead

Here are the picures below, not exactly a week yet, but near enough :)

4 Weeks from flip, tomorrow.

Spoon feeding is defintely the way forward with Coco, ask most coco growers that have been growing a while and they will tell you the same thing. With coco its better to slightly underfeed rather than over feed. If you over feed with coco you just end up locking the plants out, and they will stall and not grow, also you get salt build up in the pots which will slow growth.

The best thing to do is get a really good base nutrient, I use Ionic Hydro nutes, then just spoon feed the extra elements the plants require, when they require it.

Look forward to the diary Tom, post a link for it here when you are up and running and I am happy to help out with advice.

Happy Holidays everyone :)

Cheeky quick picture of my favorite Xmas tree :)

The B vitamins from RAW are another cracking product from RAW, to be honest the range is very good in general, although not cheap.

B vitamins are really only needed if your stressing the plant in anyways, its good to use it before you pot up, or if the temps are a bit high in the tent, or before you carryout LST. It prepares the plants for the stress, and they then recover a lot quicker.

Most of the RAW range are generally only used when needed so the small bags should last several grows :)

Hi Folks,

So another all in one weekly update as I am changing the res tonight in the Shire, so I have mixed up this weeks feed.

So 5 weeks from flip today, a plain feed again this week as below:

80ml Ionic Bloom Hardwater
55ml PK 4/10 Hammerhead

Ph = 6.2
EC = 1.2

So heres the weekly pictures:

Afternoon folks :)

So 6 weeks from flip today, here is the pictures, had a bit of weird foxtailing on one of the plants (front left), but nowt to worry about.

Hi Folks,

Sorry forgot about an update on Friday, so it an all in one again today, so changed the reservoir last Wednesday, so will be due another change tomorrow.

So last week I dropped back on my EC and fed as below:

EC - 1.0
Ph - 6.2

50ml Ionic Bloom Hardwater
50ml PK 4/10

I am starting to leach the feed from these plants now, due to empty jars, I will need to chop one plant this weekend, but I plan on letting the other 3 go to 10 weeks :)

So heres the pictures, I havent done comparrison pictures now, as with supports and stuff everything has moved around anyways.

Image

Image

Image

Image

So will be feeding them low and slow again this week into next, then they will go on a 7 to 10 day flush :)

Hi Folks,

So as promised, a quick update, so I chopped the bottom right plant last Friday, this was really for 2 reasons, one the jars were getting a bit empty, and i wanted abit more space in the tent, as dont want to risk any mold.

Luckily we found no rot on any of the bud, which was good news :)

So last Wednesday I done my usual res change, I am still leaching these plants, so I set the Ph to 6.0 and the EC to 0.8. This is the last week of feed so tomorrow they will go onto plain water and mollases to flush for the next days.

So heres a few random pics of chop, and the tent as today:

Hope everyone has a good week, if it aint good then let it be quick!

Hi Folks,

So a quick picture and weight update, the first plant was dry enough to weigh today, and came out at 256g in total :)

So here is a couple of pictures, these are 3 days into a 10 day flush now, and will be chopped this time next week:

Image

Image

Image

Right, so over a week ago now since I chopped the last 3 plants, so after 10 days they are ready to be weighed and jarred up.....

So the scores on the doors, I didnt weigh the last 3 plants seperate, and out of the 3 plants I got a total of 514g dried. I am not overly surprised, when I was chopping the final 3, they seemed smaller than the first plant, and it was still a good haul across all 4 plants.

So the total for this grow with the 256g from the 1st plant was 770g :)

Grams per watt wise this works out at 1.53g per watt, as these didnt go over 502w

I think my lesson learned this diary is watch those light out temps, I am not sure if this cost me in the end, but its defitely something I will keep an eye on next grow :)

Thanks to everyone who popped along for this grow, hopefully a couple more weeks and we will be starting up again :)

This diary is now completed :)
